Our Mission

The Student Government Association (SGA) is the official voice for all UTEP students. We represent, advocate for, defend, and serve the student body of America's Leading Hispanic-Serving University. We strive to create a positive campus life and enriching student experience by promoting collaboration between students, faculty, staff, and administration. We empower students to lead, be engaged, and create lasting impacts on the health, culture, education, and economy of the community we serve.

Vision

We aspire to be the driving force behind improving the quality of campus life and the student experience. We champion the strict standards of accountability for organizational effectiveness. We endeavor to be the prominent voice of the student body to local, state, national, and foreign governments. We continue to provide access to excellent service that contributes to the personal and professional development of the university community.

The SGA Values

Student Representation

We facilitate student representation by electing officers and Senators to the SGA through annual elections to ensure all students are heard, valued, and represented in decisions that impact the university community.

Student Advocacy

We elevate student voices by reviewing and approving legislation that impacts student life, including funding requests for student organizations and university projects, by addressing the needs of students through proactive, informed, and transparent representation.

Student Engagement

We foster meaningful involvement by providing opportunities for shared governance thorough student representation on university committees, ensuring student input on key academic and administrative decisions.

Community Engagement

We strengthen the ties between UTEP and the community by organizing events and initiatives which promote student leadership, such as sponsoring programs that recognize student achievement, campus engagement, and acts of service.

Campus Enrichment

We support a community of care that addresses student concerns, advocates for policy changes, and oversees issues related to student conduct and campus life through the SGA Senate.
