As a history major, writing is an extremely prevalent aspect of my academic journey. Although I have always felt that writing has come naturally to me, my time as a student at UTEP has led me to discover new techniques to further develop my skills. I first heard of the idea that everyone has a unique story to tell inside of them from author George R.R. Martin when he was speaking during a panel, and this has influenced the writing I have produced since. These words of wisdom made me realize that everyone has the potential to write well, they just need to refine and cultivate their abstract thoughts to be translated into writing. This advice also helped me realize that every piece of writing is ultimately telling a story, influencing me to give as much effort as possible into what I am crafting because no one wants to read a bad or boring story. If there is one piece of advice I have for writers who are struggling to get something out, it would be to not be afraid of writing down and outlining all of the ideas you have in your head. Doing so can allow you to see what ideas are working and what isn’t, and can also allow you to make connections on how to incorporate each idea together.
