Welcome to the Center for Inter-American and Border Studies (CIBS). The Center is a focus for UTEP activities concerning Borders, Latin America, and the Caribbean. While an emphasis on our local region is interwoven through most UTEP activities, CIBS creates a central point of leadership and support for other units in academic programs, research, and outreach activities.

Our website contains information about our academic programs, research programs, visiting scholars, resources for students and community outreach activities. We cordially invite you, to explore the Inter-American experience through the very programs and activities we organize and sponsor. UTEP Announces Plans for New Dinner Theatre Seasons

EL PASO, Texas (Sept. 5, 2024) – The University of Texas at El Paso announced future seasons of UTEP Dinner Theatre (UDT) musicals will be produced with UDT integrated with the University’s Department of Theatre and Dance and with a new funding model.

Researchers at The University of Texas at El Paso will undertake a new study that could lead to improved nicotine cessation treatments for women. The work is supported by a $2.5 million grant from the National Institute on Drug Abuse, part of the National Institutes of Health. Principal Investigator Laura O'Dell, Ph.D. (left), a professor in the Department of Psychology at UTEP, will lead the multidisciplinary project. Her team includes (from left to right) Veronika Espinoza, graduate student; Priscilla Giner, graduate student; Luis M. UTEP Awarded $2.5 M NIH Grant to Study Nicotine Dependence in Women

EL PASO, Texas (Aug. 15, 2024) — Researchers at The University of Texas at El Paso will undertake a new study that could lead to improved nicotine cessation treatments for women. The work is supported by a new $2.5 million grant from the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
