Dr. Xu is an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Texas at EL Paso. She obtained her Ph.D. in Computer Science from Utah State University in 2020. Dr. Xu worked as research scientist in Idaho National Laboratory (INL) from 2021 to 2025. She has led and contributed to over 10 funded projects, driving innovation at the intersection of AI and critical applications. Her excellence has been consistently recognized with prestigious honors, including the Gold Medal for postdoctoral researchers at INL in 2022 and the Best Mentor Award at INL in 2023.
Dr. Xu’s research interests include developing AI models for high-fidelity and scarce data analysis, and generative AI approaches for image synthesis—capabilities critical to fields like healthcare, nuclear energy, critical infrastructure protection, and advanced manufacturing. She pioneered the development of hybrid models for the early detection of breast cancer in ultrasound images, innovatively integrating human visual mechanisms and anatomical knowledge to improve diagnostic performance. As an active contributor to the scientific community, Dr. Xu has a prolific publication record and serves as a guest editor, conference co-organizer, and reviewer for leading journals and conferences, consistently advancing the fields of AI and its practical applications.
