Dr. Min Xian is an Associate Professor at The University of Texas at El Paso. His research focuses on trustworthy artificial intelligence, machine learning, and deep learning, and their applications in biomedical image analysis and AI-aided materials characterization and modeling. He received a B.S. in Information Security in 2008, an M.S. in Computer Science in 2011, and a Ph.D. in Computer Science in 2017 from Utah State University. Before joining UTEP, he was an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Idaho.

Dr. Xian’s work focuses on developing the technical pathways to build trust in AI for high-stakes environments such as healthcare and energy systems. His work includes building interpretable, robust AI models for image-centered disease detection, developing efficient generative AI to produce large-scale scientific data, and benchmarking AI attacks and defenses to explore AI system vulnerabilities. Dr. Xian’s research has been supported in part by the National Institutes of Health, Department of Energy, and Department of Defense. Google Scholar records more than 3,400 citations of his publications.
