Dr. Salamah Salamah is the Associate Vice President for Scientific Computing and Artificial Intelligence (AI) at The University of Texas at El Paso, where he plays a pivotal role in advancing the University’s strategic research initiatives and developing its computing infrastructure to support innovation. An endowed professor in UTEP’s Department of Computer Science, Dr. Salamah previously served as department chair from 2020 to 2024. Under his leadership, the department experienced significant growth, becoming one of the largest at the University.
Dr. Salamah spearheaded the effort that earned UTEP three prestigious National Security Agency (NSA) Center of Academic Excellence (CAE) designations, placing the University among only 11 institutions nationwide to hold all three honors. He has been instrumental in fostering collaborations with industry, academia, and government agencies like the Army Research Lab and the NSA. He also led the development of UTEP's pioneering undergraduate and graduate degree programs in Artificial Intelligence, launched in 2024.
Dr. Salamah focuses on translating cutting-edge research into practical applications that solve complex, real-world problems. His current mission is to create strategic value by building powerful computing infrastructure and fostering deep collaborations between UTEP’s researchers and industry partners. This approach is designed to accelerate technology development and deliver innovative solutions, ensuring partner organizations can leverage the next generation of AI and technical talent to maintain a competitive advantage.
