About ADA Advisory Committee
Function/Purpose
The ADA Advisory Committee provides guidance related to the development and maintenance of a barrier-free environment at UTEP that facilitates equal opportunities and access for individuals with disabilities. The committee provides guidance through review of policies and procedures relative to the university’s compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and its Amendments. Members may also be called upon to provide input and expertise to other university committees and teams. The committee will meet once a month or more often if needed.
Membership
Committee members shall consist of faculty, staff and students with a background, interest and/or experience in disability and accessibility related matters. The number of members may vary but will always include representation from the faculty, staff, student body, physical plant, parking and transportation services, environmental health and safety and residence life.
Appointed By
The President’s Office.
Co-Chairs
UTEP’s Director of the Center for Accommodations and Support Services (CASS) and the Director for Equal Opportunity will share the responsibility for providing leadership to this committee and shall share the position of chair on a permanent basis and preside at all committee meetings.
Term of Committee Members
Faculty members will serve a term of two years. Staff members will serve for two years unless their appointment is by virtue of their job position. In that case the term is permanent. Students will serve for a term of one year.
