Assessing Physical Activity and Sedentary Behavior in Stroke Survivors
Purpose of the Study and How to Participate
The overarching goal of this umbrella project is to comprehensively assess physical activity and sedentary behavior in stroke survivors, focusing on understanding and improving their quality of life through targeted interventions and research. There are five projects within this study.
This Study Will Require:
- Participation in various research activities aimed at measuring and analyzing stroke survivors' physical activity and sedentary behavior.
- Involvement in studies using questionnaires, wearable technology, and clinical tests to gather data and insights.
- Engagement with a team of researchers dedicated to advancing the field of neurorehabilitation.

Projects 1 and 2: Assessing Sedentary Behavior in Stroke Survivors
-
Aim Project 1: To evaluate the concurrent validity, content validity, internal consistency, and reliability of the Sedentary Behavior Questionnaire (SBQ) specifically for stroke survivors.
-
Aim Project 2: Translate and adapt the Self-Efficacy to Reduce Sedentary Behavior (SRSB) questionnaire to Spanish, suitable for stroke survivors. This project also aims to examine the construct validity, content validity, internal consistency, and reliability of the SRSB for this demographic.
Projects 3 and 4: Mapping Physical Activity and Sedentary Behavior of Stroke Survivors in the U.S.-Mexican Border
-
Aim Project 3: To measure and analyze physical activity levels and sedentary behavior in a cohort of stroke survivors living in El Paso and its surrounding areas.
-
Aim Project 4: To identify physical and psychosocial factors that contribute to lower levels of physical activity and higher sedentary behavior among stroke survivors in the same region.
Sit2Stand: Validity in Stroke and Aging Populations in the Clinic and At Home
Purpose of the Study and How to Participate
-
Aim 1: To establish the concurrent validity of the Sit2Stand test against a clinical test, the Timed Up and Go (TUG), both in clinical settings and at home.
-
Aim 2: To validate the Five Times Sit to Stand Test (FTSTST) outcomes with ActivPAL®, which quantitatively measures the frequency of sit-to-stand movements over three days.
-
Aim 3: To investigate whether sit-to-stand joint angles can predict community gait as measured by the number of daily steps.
