Welcome to the Department of Public Health Sciences
The Department of Public Health Sciences at The University of Texas at El Paso is dedicated to preventing disease and improving the health status of diverse communities through education, research, and outreach.
Our program provides quality undergraduate and graduate education for health promotion and public health practice professionals and scientists. We prepare our graduates for leadership roles in health promotion/public health, conducting innovative population-based health interventions, and research through classroom instruction, internships, and other field and research experiences. Our academic programs, research, and community outreach have a special focus on Hispanic and border health issues. Additionally, our Master in Public Health Program has been recognized as one of the most affordable in the nation.
Departmental faculty have excellent educational backgrounds and experience which they bring to their roles as educators and student mentors. All of our faculty have received graduate and post-graduate training at first rate institutions. Most are fluent in Spanish and all have years of experience working with Hispanic and other groups on the U.S.-Mexico border and/or Latin America. They are actively involved in research on significant public health issues in chronic and infectious disease epidemiology, prevention and education, maternal-child health, nutrition, environmental health, and substance abuse, among others. Many of our graduate and undergraduate students are involved in faculty research activities.
