Annual Application Period: November 1 - February 1
- Students in their 3rd year of University Studies (Outstanding 2nd year students will also be considered)
- One semester of prior research experience preferred but not required
- Equivalent GPA of at least 3.25/4.0 scale
- Enrolled full-time in a STEM program - projects available for chemistry, physics, biology, computer science/mathematics, and mechanical engineering majors
- Acceptable English proficiency as determined by UTEP J-1 requirements
- Inform your references that they will be receiving an email to submit their recommendation letters online, and
- Prepare a PDF copy of the following documents for uploading:
- Government issued photo ID
- Curriculum Vitae (CV) or Resume
- Copy of your academic transcript (in English)
- PDF of your passport biographical page
- Curriculum Vitae (CV) or Resume
- Copy of your academic transcript (in English)
- SIGNED copies of each UTEP J-1 Visa package form
- Copy of your English proficiency test results
In addition, two (2) completed recommendation forms are required. Recommendation forms will be sent directly by email to the references you indicate in your application, once it is submitted. Students should inform those references ahead of time and follow up with them to ensure timely submission of recommendation forms.
Note: International students accepted to the program will receive an acceptance letter and additional forms to complete the US J-1 visa process. A valid passport, proof of health/accident insurance, and proof of financial support are required to apply for the visa.
- An online application form and all required documents (Deadline: February 1)
- Two recommendation forms completed by professors that know the student well. This form also asks the references to upload a recommendation letter (signed and on official letterhead; Deadline: February 9)
- Proof of health insurance coverage through all 10 weeks of the program (Deadline: May 15)
- Select up to three projects/mentors of their choice in ranking order.
- Write a statement / essay that demonstrates a mature interest in engineering or science, describes their motivation to participate in this program and the impact that participation in the chosen research projects may have on their education/career plans.
- Upload a pdf copy of the documents requested above.
NOTE: Students are expected to arrive on campus the weekend before the program starts and depart on the Sunday after it ends.
