Hazardous Materials and Waste Management
The following services are provided:
Hazardous material spill prevention and hazardous waste clean-up.
Pick-up and disposal of hazardous waste.
Assist in the packaging and shipment of materials classified as Dangerous Goods according to the Department of Transportation (DOT) or the Internation Air Transportation Association (IATA).
Implement the campus hazardous waste minimization (pollution prevention) program.
Recycle waste solvents.
Review storage and containment of hazardous and biological materials.
Assist the laboratory staff with lab clean-out.
Provide safety clearances for relocating laboratories and equipment.
Training
The following services are provided:
Safety training classes are necessary for accident and injury prevention and are also required by state and federal regulations. UTEP EH&S offers a wide variety of safety training programs to help the University community understand general campus safety issues and recognize the specific hazards within their work or environment.

The following services are provided:
Investigation of employee work conditions.
Review of employee injuries and worker compensation claims.
Industrial Hygiene
Perform ventilation and indoor air pollution surveys.
Monitor for exposure to toxic chemicals.
Check for and monitor maintenance operations involving asbestos.
Design specifications and monitor work on UTEP asbestos abatements.
Oversee worker respirator program.
Perform environmental sampling.
Perform noise surveys and other industrial hygiene surveys.
Perform microwave and electromagnetic surveys.
Radiation Safety
Monitor laboratories where radioactive materials are used and stored.
Assist with the application for authorization to use radioactive materials.
Administer radiation dosimetry program.
Receipt, inspection, and inter-campus transport of radioactive sources.
Pick-up and disposal of radioactive waste.
Survey radiation machines and surrounding areas.
Calibration of radiation survey instruments.
Biannual leak check of sealed sources.
Quantity and decay tracking of UTEP on-campus sources.
Review and authorization of source purchases within limits of the UTEP radioactive materials license.

Fire and Life Safety
The following services are provided:
Evaluate and authorize fire protection equipment/systems as UTEP Fire marshal.
Inspect, test, and service fire-safety equipment.
Develop and evaluate fire evacuation plans.
Audit fire alarm system maintenance.
Safety and compliance review of new construction and renovation projects.
Storm Water Management Program
The following services are provided to meet the requirements of the Texas Pollutant Discharge Elimination system Small Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) General Permit, Authorization Number TXR040334:
The University of Texas at El Paso is a level 2 non-traditional campus MS4 within an Urbanized Area and has developed a Storm Water Management Program.

The department of Environmental Health and Safety has submitted an annual report for the period beginning 01/01/2022 and ending 12/31/2022.
