College of Engineering Honors Program
The UTEP Edge Experiences is the competitive edge that distinguishes UTEP students through engagement in high-impact practices. These activities have long been a part of the culture for student in the College of Engineering as preparation for their professional careers.
The following is a summary of expectations for students seeking to graduate in the University Honors Program (UHP). Full details can be found at https://www.utep.edu/honors/Prospective%20Students/engineering_honorsprogram.html
Requirements for Admission:
- Classified as a freshman, sophomore, junior or senior
- Two years (four full spring and fall semesters) remaining to graduate
- Minimum cumulative 3.5 GPA
- Submit University Honors Program application that consists of the following to uhpnetwork@utep.edu
Requirements for Graduating with College of Engineering Honors:
- Complete the UHP Member Agreement
- Maintain a minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA
- Participate in UHP group event each fall and spring semester
- Submit Graduate Clearance Form to the UHP Office
- Complete four high-impact practices
High Impact Experiences for Honors Credit
- Capstone Experience: allowed once and cannot be part of degree plan
- Community Engagement: allowed once and must participate in 40 hours of service and register using The CUE
- Creative Activities: multiple engagements are allowed and must have a significant contribution to the student competition
- Internships: multiple engagements in respective field are allowed and register for College of Engineering course or register using Job Mine/Handshake
- Professional Preparation: multiple engagements are allowed and shadow professional in respective field for 40 hours
- Research and Scholarly Activity: multiple engagements are allowed; must register for RSRC 4033 and obtain a grade of S
- Student Leadership: allowed once and just be involved in a UTEP registered student organization as an officer for 1 year
- Study Abroad/Away: allowed twice and abroad experience or faculty-led international study activity while a UTEP student with at least a 3.5 GPA
- Student Employment: only Research Assistant or Teaching Assistant are allowed
