Summer 2023
- I am promoted to Full Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at UTEP.
- 8 peer-reviewed conference papers submitted from my research group to 2023 IAS Annual Meeting are accepted.
- I will be co-moderating the panel on the topic: "Outstanding Doctoral Dissertations in Power and Energy Systems" at IEEE PESGM2023.

Spring 2023
- Paper accepted at IEEE Trans. on Transportatio Electrification [Sustainability of Dynamic Wireless Power Transfer Roadway for In-motion Electric Vehicle Charging], Congratulation Travis!
- 4 graduate and 3 UG students of PRES Lab. started summer internship at national labs (SNL and LLNL) via CREPES project.
- Award: Congratulation Armando Montoya for being the recipient of "Outstanding Senior Award," and graduating BSEE. Further congratulation to your acceptance at Georgia Tech (Master Degree).
Fall 2022
- 4 peer-reviewed conference papers submitted from my research group to IEEE PESGM2023 are accepted.
- PRES Lab celebrated Thanksgiving 2022 lunch on 11/16/22. Thanks to all PRES Lab members and guests.
- Award: Congratulations Oscar for being one of the top 5 winners at UTEP GradExpo2022.
- Award: Congratulation Nathan Lee for being the recipient of "Outstanding Senior Award, and graduating BSEE.
- Award: Congratulations to Antonio Avila for winning the UTEP LaunchPad Ideas Competition and moving to the national competition.
- Award: Congratulations Armando for winning The Best (1st place) Undergraduate Paper Award at NAPS2022 conference, and also being the recipient of 2023IEEE PES Scholarship.
- PRES Lab, ECE, UTEP is a part of DOE-CESER Project ( $2 million) to enhance Cybersecurity of America's Energy Systems. Thanks to DOE for funding the three-year project ($405k) in the area of designing and developing tools for cyber-physical anomaly mitigation for DER-integrated distribution systems. PRES Lab will collaborate with Iowa State University including Duke Energy, Alliant Energy, Google, OSISoft, and SEL in this project.

Congratulations Luis (PMU data forecast and Anomaly Detection), Armando (Short-term solar power prediction using Deep Learning), Diego (Energy systems planning), and Antonio (EV charging station and demand response).
- PRES Lab's CREPES team (6 students) traveled with me to Miami, FL to attend and present UTEP-CREPES research accomplishments at 1st CREPES Annual Workshop, Floridat Int'l University, 9/16/22
- Welcoming two new Ph.D. students (Travis and Alisha) to PRES Lab. Welcome Antonio towards your MS research.
- Several PRES Lab. UG and Graduate students completed their summer internship at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) and Sandia National Lab (SNL).

- PESGM2022 (7/17-21, 2022): Two PRES Lab. graduate students presented papers and posters at PESGM2022. I gave a panel talk on Wireless EV Charging Infrastructure.
- Welcoming two new Ph.D. students (Saj and Oscar) to PRES Lab.
- Several UG and Graduate students belonging to PRES Lab completed their summer internship at Sandia National Lab (SNL) and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL).
- I attended and presented a poster at NSF-IUSE-SUMMIT2022, Washington DC, June 1-3, 2022.
- Congratulations to Oscar and Orlando for defending MS Theses and completing MSEE.
- Congratulations to Oscar and Orlando for their papers accepted at IEEE PES GM2022, Denver, CO.
- Thanks to DOE for funding the three-year project ($300k) in the area of PV Nowcasting.
- 12 new students joined the PRES Lab. Welcome to 6 new UG students and 6 new graduate students.
- Presented at NSF co-sponsored 2021 Workshop on Adaptable Transportation and Power Systems
December 7, 2021 organized by U of Washington. - Two papers are presented at NAPS2021 conference. (i) Enhancing Distribution Grid Resilience Using EVs by Orlando Quezada-Simental and (ii) Enriching Power Engineering Education Using Simulation Software by Travis Newbolt.
July 2021:

- Few other students presented their research at IEEE PESGM2021.
- Travis Newbolt presented two abstracts: (i) "Analysis of Diverse and Dynamic Effects of DERs in Residential Microgrid Using RAPSim Software" and (ii) "Optimal Power Flow Analysis Using Power World Simulator: Enhancing Power Engineering Education at Undergraduate Level";
- Orlando Quezada-Simental presented in the area of "Electric Vehicles for Residential Emergency Response During Power Outages";
- Dan Rosa de Jesus presented an abstract on "Machine Learning Based Utility Measure for Expected Value of Sensed Information in the Context of Renewable Energy Prediction" and and full paper on "Unsupervised Hybrid Deep Generative Models for Photovoltaic Synthetic Data Generation.

- I gave a panel talk on "Synthetic Data Generator Model for Smart Grid Applications" at IEEE PESGM2021.
- April 2021: Five UG research students (J. Lazo, R. Lubo, J. Morales, T. Newbolt, and A. Perez) presented research findings at UTEP-COURI Symposium, Spring 2021. - August 2020: @ IEEE PES GM 2020: Ph.D. student Dan presented a paper "Deep Learning Ensemble Based New Approach for Very Short-Term Wind Power Forecasting." I gave a talk (panelist) on "Resiliency Analysis in Networked-Microgrids Considering DERs."
- April 2020: Our paper entitled "Performance Evaluation of Probabilistic Methods Based on Bootstrap and Quantile Regression to Quantify PV Power Point Forecast Uncertainty" is published in IEEE Trans. of NN and Learning Systems.
- December 2019: (i) Was at the Ph.D. hooding ceremonty at Winter Commencement 2019. I hooded my student Eric Galvan. Congratulaions Dr. Eric Galvan and good luck with your work at El Paso Electric; (ii) Ph.D. student, Dan, received UTEP Graduate School Travel Grant. Congratulations Dan!

- October 2019: Attended North American Power Symposium (NAPS2019): (i) served as a Session Chair at Distribution System Modeling/Distribution Systems Track; and also served as a Judge at student paper presentation, (ii) Ph.D. student, Dan, presented a paper on data fusion model & hybrid deep learning
- September 2019: Ph.D. student, Eric, completed his Doctoral Dissertation Proposal.
