Wellness at the Workplace
When you are an adult and have to work 40+ hour weeks, it’s easy to fall into unhealthy habits because of lack of time and/or energy. It’s important to encourage and build a healthy environment in the workplace, since this is where adults spend most of their time.
Here are some ideas on how to build a healthier environment in the workplace:
- Provide healthy office snacks: Do this instead of having unhealthy vending machine snacks.
- Get your team on their feet: Offer standing desks to avoid sitting all day.
- Launch a step competition: Whoever has more steps on their tracker gets an incentive.
- Practice gratitude: Encourage your team to write out what they’re grateful for every day. After a few weeks, have them reflect on their mood and productivity.
- Make your office pet-friendly: This will reduce stress and increase productivity and collaboration.
- Sponsor guided meditation: This will help lower stress and increase life expectancy.
- Host a cooking class: This will be a fun way to learn about nutrition and try new foods.
- Bring the outdoors inside: Have potted plants inside the office or, if possible, set up a vertical garden inside.
- Host an anxiety workshop: This is a great way to reduce stigma and help those in the office who suffer from anxiety, depression, or other mental health disorders.
- Host a comedy show: Bring a comedian or treat the office to a night out at a comedy club. After all, laughter is the best medicine.
Hopefully employees will be more productive, happier, and overall healthier once these ideas are implemented into the workplace.
