DoART Study Abroad
Contemporary Art & Global Perspectives (Italy)
Experience the art and culture of Rome and Venice! This program will allow students to visit some of the classic ancient and Renaissance sites in both cities to create a contrast to their contemporary art venues and offerings. The Venice Biennale is the world’s premiere contemporary art fair; it occurs every two years and features pavilions for participating countries and their chosen artists from around the globe.
In Rome, we will visit St. Peter’s basilica and the Sistine Chapel; the Vatican Museums; Santa Maria Maggiore; the Museum of the Ara Pacis; the Pantheon; Capitoline Hill and its museums; the Colosseum and Roman Forum; and the Villa Borghese. In the following days, we will visit museums including MAXXI (the museum of twenty-first century art), the National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art, and multiple contemporary art galleries, including Gagosian Roma.
In Venice, we will spend time at the Piazza San Marco; the Palazzo Ducale; the Basilica di San Marco; and Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari. We will spend at least two days at the Venice Biennale, including its sites at the Giardini and Arsenale. We will visit the Peggy Guggenheim Collection and the International Gallery of Modern Art Ca’Pesaro as well
This program takes place in the Summer, classes at UTEP start on June 11, and travel dates run from June 28 to July 12, 2025.
