History Club & Honor Society
History Club
Several undergraduate students came together in September and October of 2022 to form a History Club. The purpose of the club is to provide a welcoming community for history majors; hold history-related and career-related events, outings, and activities; and cultivate historical knowledge and discussion. The club is taking steps to become a registered student organization at UTEP. Membership is open to students of any major. All are welcome!
To join the club or find out when the next meeting is, email Bryan Garcia (bcgarcia1@miners.utep.edu) or Dr. Paul Edison (pedison@utep.edu).
History Honor Society (Phi Alpha Theta)
Phi Alpha Theta is an academic honor society open to both undergraduate and graduate students with a mission to promote the study of History. UTEP’s chapter of Phi Alpha Theta organizes various events for students and faculty, including a periodic student history conference held in conjunction with Phi Alpha Theta at NMSU.
To become a member of Phi Alpha Theta, undergraduate students must have taken a minimum of 12 semester hours (4 courses) in History, and have a GPA of at least 3.0 overall and 3.1 in History. Membership dues are $50.00. This gives lifetime membership, eligibility to apply for various scholarships, prizes, and conferences, and four issues of the organization’s publication, The Historian. For more information on Phi Alpha Theta see: https://phialphatheta.org/about/.
If you have questions or would like to join, please contact the faculty advisor, Dr. Paul Edison (pedison@utep.edu).
