Minor Requirements
The Minor Native American and Indigenous Studies requires the completion of 18 credit hours (six courses) of which students are presently required to complete the following core courses:
NAIS 2300: Intro to Indigenous Studies
NAIS 4301: Capstone in NAIS
The final four courses can be selected from a variety of options from different departments across the college. All courses must be at the upper division level (3000 – 4000), although courses at the 2000 level may be considered with approval of the NAIS advisor and in collaboration with the College of Liberal Arts Student Success center (CLASS). In addition, students must obtain advisor approval for “Special Topics” courses in other disciplines, such as HIST 3390. Students are strongly encouraged to take NAIS 2300 as soon as possible upon declaring the minor, and they are encouraged to take courses in the minor that are also offered in their major. For example, if a student is a History major, they should also take HIST 3323. Students should consult with the NAIS advisor regarding individualized projects for NAIS 4301 as soon as possible, and potentially align other course work so that it helps students complete that capstone project.
