Creative Writing Professor Receives Prestigious Poetry Award
Andrea Cote, associate professor in the Department of Creative Writing recently traveled to Spain where she was presented with the 2024 Casa de América de Poesía Americana Award. This recognition was bestowed on Professor Cote for her poetry collection, Querida Beth. The collection of poems tells the story of a Colombian woman who travels as a migrant to the United States where she experiences “the slow disappearance of her name and legacy.” Cote notes that these poems “come to restore her memory in some way, as only language knows how to console us from the wound inflected by reality.”
The Casa de América consortium received over 650 manuscripts from 38 countries before awarding the prestigious award to Cote.
