We are delighted to announce that Dr. Laura O’Dell has been awarded an R01 Grant from the National Institute on Drug Abuse for a 5-year period with a total budget of over $2 million. The title of the grant is “Sex Differences and the Influence of Ovarian Hormones on the Mechanisms that Promote Nicotine Withdrawal.” The major goals of the study are to use rodent models to help identify the underlying mechanisms that mediate nicotine use among different clinical populations that are uniquely susceptible to this problem, including adolescents and females. The grant reflects a collaborative effort with Drs. Ian Mendez (Pharmacy) and Arshad Khan (Biological Sciences). The grant will support the research activities of their team that also includes Dr. Luis Carcoba, Omar Lira, and graduate students Veronika Espinoza, Tiffany Gonzalez-Garcia, Sebastian Ortegon, and Priscilla Giner.
Please join us in congratulating Dr. O’Dell on this major accomplishment!
