About Health Psychology
The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) Department of Psychology offers a Ph.D., with a specialization in Health Psychology. All doctoral students are guaranteed four years of funding as research or teaching assistants; graduate students are currently awarded stipends of at least $16,000 per academic year.
Six core faculty guide the research training of health psychology doctoral students in labs that conduct applied and basic research and that offer exciting training and career opportunities. Doctoral students can also pursue a Master’s in Public Health or a Master’s in Clinical Psychology as part of their graduate training. The University of Texas at El Paso’s location on the Texas-Mexico border offers unique opportunities for lab-based and community-based research within a metroplex of 2.2 million residents. Health area faculty research includes: Latino/Hispanic and other minority health disparities, health-threatening behaviors, and health-promoting behaviors. This training emphasizes proficiencies not only in public health and clinical health, but also quantitative skills development.
