Alejandra Diaz is an MA student in Communication whose research interests are related to community and social issues. She has varied experience in marketing and media and as a graduate student has studied environmental communication in Indonesia. Alejandra is currently working on her thesis: Communicative Behaviors That Prevent Latino Teenage Pregnancy: An Exploration Case Of Positive Deviance. She plans to graduate in May of 2010.

Lucía Durá

Lucía Durá is a PhD candidate in the Rhetoric and Composition Program, Department of English @ UTEP. She is currently working on her dissertation: Grassroots Development and Social Recovery: The Rhetoric of Positive Deviance in Post-Conflict Uganda. Her research interests bridge the fields of Rhetoric and Writing and Communication in the areas of social change, public health, action research, intercultural communication, organizational communication, and technical/professional communication.
Eli Garcia MBA/MA

Eli Garcia (MA/MBA) is a Senior Lecturer in Public Relations/Corporate Communication. Before Joining UTEP, Garcia hold several top management positions in the corporate world in the areas of strategic marketing planning, marketing communications and public relations for a diverse range of companies in the urban/housing development, sports management and media industries. On the academic side, Garcia’s research interests include Public Relations/Corporate Communication, Marketing and Branding. Garcia has been recognized by the Academy of Marketing Sciences, the Broadcast Education Association and the Journal of International Consumer Behavior. Also, he has taught marketing and international business courses at the Tecnologico de Monterrey, a leading university in Mexico and Latin America. Eli holds a BBA and MBA from the College of Business Administration at UTEP, with a marketing focus for his baccalaureate, and also holds an MA in Communication from UTEP. In addition to his senior lecturer responsibilities, he is also an Undergraduate Academic Advisor for the Department of Communication at UTEP, faculty advisor for the Future Leaders in Public Relations student organization and Outreach and Mentoring Facilitator for the Social Justice Initiative of the Department of Communication at UTEP.
Sara Sanchez
Design Facilitator
Sara Sanchez graduated with a Masters in Communication from UTEP. Her research focused on analyzing graphic symbolism in the Chamizal National Memorial's mural Our Heritage. She also has a bachelor degree in Graphic Communication, and has worked with the Social Justice Initiative in several projects. Recently, she attended the Celebrating the Life of Everett M. Rogers Symposium along with other members representing the SJI and UTEP.
