Theatre and Dance
What is your story?
The Department of Theatre and Dance at the University of Texas-El Paso is made up of a diverse community of artists and scholars, whose devotion to exceptional teaching, service, creative practice and research aligns with the University mission by contributing to the quality of life in El Paso, the surrounding region, and beyond. Our student centered program is dedicated to offering a multitude of performance and design opportunities within our season of shows at the Wise Family Theater, the Studio Theatre and the UTEP Dinner Theater, along with traveling productions, student projects, and the Chican@/Latin@ Theatre series. Collectively, the department hosts 20 productions a year. The UTEP Department of Theatre and Dance is committed to providing student artists the opportunity to refine their skills for a professional career.
Our Core Values
We are the voice for the voiceless advocate for the social change. Be the beacon and the leader of social justice for the region using theatre and dance as a platform. Through our courses, research, productions and mentorships, we guide and support students as role models, allies and pave the way for their success and social mobility.
If not for the need to quarantine and social distance last year, our theatre doors would have welcomed upwards of 10,000 patrons and generated over $80,000 in ticket sales. Under circumstances before the pandemic, this income would allow us to provide professional quality experiences to all who enter our doors. This year we are glad to welcome patrons back to the theater, and reconnect with our audience and community. However, with no ticket sales for a year, and with necessary adjustments due to the pandemic, our production budgets are not what they would be.
The Department of Theatre & Dance would like to set aside time and space to honor our deceased loved ones, especially in the wake of the ongoing pandemic. Noche de Ofrendas is a fundraising effort created by the Department of Theatre & Dance to help us reconnect with our community while we rebuild our pool of resources. As we learn to connect again, we also want to build spectacular productions for our audience while providing our students with professional level training and quality materials for our return to live theater. We thank you for your contributions and look forward to meeting you on November 2nd.
