Theatre and Dance
What is your story?
The Department of Theatre and Dance at the University of Texas-El Paso is made up of diverse artists and scholars whose devotion to exceptional teaching, service, creative practice, and research aligns with the University mission by contributing to the quality of life in El Paso, the surrounding region, and beyond. Our dedicated student-centered program offers many performance and design opportunities within our season of shows at the Wise Family Theater, the June Sadowski Kruszewski Studio Theatre, and the Dinner Theater, along with traveling productions, student projects, and the Chican@/Latin@ Theatre series. Collectively, the department hosts 20 productions a year. The UTEP Department of Theatre and Dance is committed to allowing student artists to refine their skills for a professional career..
Our Core Values
We are the voice for the voiceless and advocate for social change. We are leaders for social justice in our region, using theatre and dance as a platform. Through our courses, research, productions, and mentorships, we guide and support students as role models and allies and pave the way for their success and social mobility.
We are thrilled to announce our 2025–2026 season, filled with powerful stories and unforgettable performances! We open on October 24 with I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter by Isaac Gómez, based on the bestselling novel by Erika L. Sánchez—a moving and heartfelt story that will set the tone for an inspiring season. Then, on November 14, prepare to be dazzled by Andrew Lloyd Webber’s legendary musical CATS, based on T.S. Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats. To close out the fall semester, we bring you the enchanting play The River Bride by Marisela Treviño Orta, opening December 3 in the June Sadowski Kruszewski Studio Theatre.
The spring semester begins on February 19, 2026, with Slow Emergences, a transformative dance concert exploring how communities can grow and adapt in the face of global crises. On March 27, we head to New York City’s East Village for Jonathan Larson’s groundbreaking musical RENT, a story of love, resilience, and chosen family. Finally, on April 17, we present Sarah Ruhl’s Orlando, a witty and imaginative adaptation of Virginia Woolf’s classic novel.
We are overjoyed to continue sharing important and diverse stories with the El Paso community, and we can’t wait to welcome you into our audience for this extraordinary season of theatre and dance!
