International Women's Day (IWD) is celebrated annually on March 8. This celebration is all about unity, celebration, reflection, advocacy and action. In honor of International Women's Day, we celebrate our UTEP women!

International Women’s Day is a time to salute all women for their accomplishments as individuals and acknowledge the strides we have made as a group. This women continues to inspire and give voice to tomorrow’s leaders.

GAIA Makerspace Visit


The Mike Loya Team visited the GAIA Makerspace last week and learned about the 3D-Printing. GAIA Makerspace is a free, open space where you can imagine, create and inspire. Located at the Undergraduate Learning Center (UGLC), GAIA Makerspace offers the resources and the opportunity to endeavor into enhanced technology such as:

 3D design and printing, Raspberry Pi , Arduino , 3D Scanning , Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, Graphic Design, Programming, Print Circuit Board, Computer Numeric Control and so much more!

The service is open to all university students, faculty and staff members that would like to learn, practice and master skills.

GAIA Makerspace Mission is ''Learning Environments has started a campus-wide 3D Printing System, along with the space where students will be able to work on 3D designs and projects. Students,  have the opportunity to supervise the printing of their own prototypes.'' Learn more about UTEP Maker Space  here

Innovation and Economic Prosperity (IEP) 

 The Mike Loya Center for Innovation and Commerce has been tasked with the pursuit of the APLU IEP designation. A major milestone for the Loya Center and for the University.

APLU is a research, policy and advocate organization dedicated to strengthening and advancing the work of public univerisities in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.

The universities that participate in the Innovation and Economic Prosperity Program undertake a demanding self-assessment to evaluate their economic engagement with their community. Therefore, at UTEP we understand that this self-assessment will help us learn, improve, and grow so we can continue to serve our fascinating borderland.
