UTEP Civil Engineering Receives Inaugural National Construction Education Award
The Department of Civil Engineering’s Construction Engineering Management Program has been awarded the inaugural Dr. Dennis C. Bausman National Construction Education Program Award presented by the American Institute of Constructors Education Foundation (AICEF).
As the first recipient of this distinguished honor, the UTEP Department of Civil Engineering will receive a custom-designed plaque and a $4,000 monetary stipend in recognition of the program’s achievements and dedication to excellence in construction education.
The Dr. Dennis C. Bausman Award was established by AICEF to honor outstanding university construction education programs that demonstrate a strong commitment to preparing students for professional certification and ethical practice in the construction industry. The award recognizes accredited programs that serve as Constructor Certification test sites and actively promote the Certified Associate Constructor examination, while also engaging students in initiatives such as the American Institute of Constructors’ National Ethics Competition.
The UTEP Construction Engineering Management Program is led by Professor of Practice Austin Marshall, Ph.D.; Associate Professor Adeeba Raheem, Ph.D.; and Assistant Professor Jaeyoon (Jason) Kim, Ph.D.
The recognition highlights UTEP’s ongoing commitment to fostering academic excellence, industry engagement and professional development within the field of construction management. Through rigorous coursework, hands-on experience, and support for certification, the department continues to prepare its students to meet the demands of a global and ever-evolving industry.
"We are incredibly proud of our Construction Engineering Management Program and the outstanding faculty who have made this recognition possible. Receiving this inaugural award is a powerful affirmation of the dedication, innovation, and industry engagement that define our program,” said Department of Civil Engineering Chair Carlos Ferregut, Ph.D. “This achievement reflects our department’s unwavering commitment to preparing the next generation of construction professionals with the highest standards of technical knowledge, ethical practice, and leadership. I highly commend Professors Marshall, Raheem, and Kim for their vision and hard work, and look forward to building on this momentum as we continue to lead in construction education.”
