The GWEP in the Borderland is committed to enhancing the care of older adults, including those living with dementia, through education, training, and workforce development. Our mission is to:
Through collaboration, innovation, and a focus on individualized health, we aim to transform the landscape of geriatric care in the borderland region.
- Equip students, residents, fellows, faculty, and preceptors in Tribal, Tribal Organizations, Underserved, and/or Rural (TTOUR) primary care settings with the knowledge and skills necessary to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care, fostering a commitment to practice in these communities upon program completion.
- Strengthen the supportive care workforce, direct care workers, and primary care teams by leveraging innovative technologies and methods to improve outcomes and quality of life for older adults.
- Promote Age-Friendly Health Systems by integrating the 4Ms framework—What Matters, Medication, Mentation, and Mobility—into care delivery, ensuring that every interaction with older adults is guided by their goals, preferences, and overall well-being.
