College of Science
Play a key role in the criminal justice system through the application of science by becoming a forensic scientist. In this program, students gain a strong, multidisciplinary foundation in chemistry, biology, physics and geology. Visiting judges, lawyers and law enforcement personnel from both the U.S. and Mexico offer valuable, real-world education.
James Li, Ph.D., has a longstanding interest, expertise and motivation for biomedical and environmental research. UTEP students benefit from the associate professor of chemistry's broad research background in biomedical investigation.
Many forensic scientists work in crime laboratories, and the Paso del Norte region houses law enforcement agencies at the local, state and federal level, providing ample job opportunities along the U.S.-Mexico border and beyond.
