UTEP Celebrates Carnegie R1 Top Tier Designation

Students, faculty and staff gathered at two venues Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2019 to celebrate UTEP reaching the top tier R1 designation from the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education.

At noon, President Diana Natalicio and SGA President Cristian Botello spoke about the distinction to the campus community at Centennial Plaza, where they were joined in the celebration by the UTEP Cheerleaders, the Marching Miners, the Golddiggers and Paydirt Pete. The event culminated with the launch of balloons and confetti as the marching band played the UTEP Fight Song.

At a Research Forum in the Tomas Rivera Conference Center later that afternoon, President Natalicio thanked UTEP faculty and staff for enabling UTEP to reach this major milestone. The celebration included a champagne toast and reception.
