Health challenges facing our region are complex. Health disparities, aging populations, bio-psycho-social stressors, do not operate in isolation. Neither do we.

The Institute for Health and Lifespan Research (IHLR) advances science that improves how people live, age, and thrive. We connect discovery to delivery. We bring researchers, clinicians, educators, and community partners together with a shared purpose. We focus on outcomes that matter to families across the Paso del Norte region and beyond.

Our Mission

To help current and future generations thrive across the lifespan through research, education, outreach, and service.

Our Vision

Healthier aging and longer, more vibrant lives for all through integrative team science, rigorous training, and responsive service.

What We Do

  • Drive Translational Discovery
We advance rigorous, innovative research that moves from the laboratory to rapidly impact the clinic and community settings. Our work strengthens prevention, accelerates treatment, and improves long-term health outcomes.
  • Develop the Next Generation
We prepare interdisciplinary scientists and service providers who understand health as a lifespan journey. Our trainees learn to work across fields, translate knowledge, and lead with impact.
  • Build Strategic Partnerships
We collaborate across academic units, health systems, civic organizations, industry, and government agencies. Strong partnerships expand capacity, align resources, and improve population health at scale.
  • Deliver Community-Based Services
We provide timely, tailored, high-quality services and interventions that support healthy aging at every life stage. Research informs practice. Practice informs research.

IHLR Research Cores

  • Precision Health
Advancing individualized approaches to prevention and care by integrating biological, behavioral, and environmental data to improve outcomes.
  • One Health
Recognizing the interdependence of human, animal, and environmental health to strengthen resilience and long-term well-being.
