Computational Science
MS Computational Science (CPS)
It is an interdisciplinary area where science, engineering, computation, mathematics, and collaboration become a key combination to address our complex research problems. With the exaflop machine computing on the horizon and current supercomputing capabilities, simulations can now be performed on what were previously unthinkable scales. Such resources are the core that we are building on and must be as powerful as our ingenuity can make them. This new development pushes us outside our comfort zone and forces us to think in the new ways. The program will produce graduates skilled in techniques such as mathematical modeling, algorithmic design, computer simulation, scientific visualization, statistical processing of big data sets, and high-performance computing on parallel and distributed systems.
PhD Computational Science (CPS)
The University of Texas at El Paso offers studies leading to degrees of a Doctor of Philosophy and Master of Science in Computational Science. Due to the interdisciplinary nature of computational science across departmental and college boundaries, this endeavor is leading to an integrated knowledge base for effective solutions of complex and diverse problems, where high-performance and high-throughput computing plays an imperative role. This degree incorporates the rapid advances of new data-enabled research areas in bioscience and bioengineering, chemistry and forensic science, computer science and electrical engineering, finance and business management, ecology and ecoinformatics, physics and mechanical engineering, and atmospheric modeling and space exploration.
