From FAMILIA: "The author describes how the Jorge-Rosa couple implemented the idea of developing their daughter's curiosity and answers based on experience, without limiting her to cultural and gender traditions.
Jorge became involved in implementing the method of stimulating curiosity through experiments and research at home and at Maribel's elementary school. To this end, the students often created their own tools to investigate phenomena that go unnoticed by those who don't observe with childlike curiosity.
Later, Jorge arranged for Maribel to have a summer job as an "apprenticeship" in laboratories at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). The book describes how Maribel, after several apprenticeships in chemistry and engineering labs during high school, was invited to work at UTEP as a laboratory assistant in materials engineering, using nothing less than a transmission electron microscope.
The author tells us how Maribel's university career at UTEP offered enormous advantages in knowledge and skills. Maribel's research in materials bioengineering on the physical characteristics of abalone shell material. The thesis she developed at UCSD was the culmination of her studies. Maribel discovered how this natural wonder, optimized over millions of years of evolution, results from the nanoscopic structure of calcium carbonate cemented with organic polymers.
Currently, Maribel works successfully in a senior engineering position at the semiconductor giant Intel.
At the end of the book, Jorge summarizes for the reader how to harness the innate curiosity of children and young people so they can become top professionals, teachers, etc., with greater opportunities in any field they choose. Maribel's book and story are very interesting."

The author, an internationally recognized nuclear physicist with a distinguished and award-winning career, brings to the narrative the precision and rigor of a scientist, while maintaining a fluent, engaging prose that makes the book both informative and highly readable.
The book centers on the academic and professional journey of Maribel, the author’s daughter, as she advances through higher education and international research. She becomes a materials scientist specializing in Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), one of the most fundamental and powerful techniques in modern science. Today, TEM can directly visualize atoms in crystalline materials, with resolutions approaching the scale of the helium atomic nucleus. The book is an awesome tribute to Jorge Lopez's daughter Maribel. Since Maribel actually started her research in my Electron Microscope lab after her high school graduation, I am intimately aware of her unique abilities and motivation for success. However, the book is more than a documentation of a young ladies' success story. It is a remarkable roadmap for parents and teachers to promote the success of students. As Jorge Lopez indicates in his prologue "most profound learning happens not in spite of unconventional methods but because of them". It reimagines what a great education can be. This book features not only an account of talent but strategic access to opportunity. This is a great book for parents that are interested in STEM education and for teachers in STEM courses.
