    We are thrilled to announce that our lab, led by Dr. Hamidreza Sharifan, has been chosen for the prestigious U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Summer Research Team Program. This program, which will be administered by the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE), offers us an incredible opportunity to collaborate with the Center for Cross-Border Threat Screening & Supply Chain Defense—all from the virtual environment.

     

    Lab Spotlight: Doctoral Candidates Somayeh Mohammadi and Kavitha Beluri Clinch the Dodson Research Grant

    We're over the moon to celebrate the achievements of two of our brilliant PhD candidates – Somayeh Mohammadi from the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, and Kavitha Beluri from the Environmental Science and Engineering Program. Their relentless dedication and exemplary efforts have been recognized with the prestigious Dodson Research Grant Award.

    This accolade not only highlights their unwavering commitment to excellence but also showcases the high caliber of research conducted within our lab. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Les and Harriet Dodson funds, which continue to support the ambitions of graduate students through research grants.

    Our gratitude also goes out to the Graduate School UTEP College of Science for their meticulous coordination, review, and evaluation during the proposal process. A special mention must be made of Dr. Carlos R. Cabrera, Chair of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, for his foundational support to our research endeavors.

    Lab News: Undergraduate Research Shines at World Water Week

    We're bursting with pride and eager to announce a standout accomplishment within our lab family! Our very own undergraduate star, Mr. Joshua Arambola from the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, has been honored with the award for Outstanding Poster Presentation at the recent Water Conference held at UTEP.

    Joshua's research on the Nano-remediation of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) from flooded soils using metallic oxide nanoparticles is not only innovative but also crucial for environmental restoration efforts. His work has clearly made waves, reflecting the depth of research and dedication nurtured here at our lab.

    A big shout out to Dr. Elizabeth Walsh for her impeccable coordination during World Water Week. Her contributions ensured the event's success and provided a platform for our researchers to showcase their hard work.

    Lab Celebrations: Doctoral Scholars Awarded the Sloan Fellowship**

    Big news from our lab family! Heartiest congratulations to PhD candidates Somayeh Mohammadi and Kavitha Beluri, from the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, and the Environmental Science and Engineering Program, respectively. They've been awarded the prestigious Sloan Centers for Systemic Change Fellowship at UTEP.

    This fellowship is a testament to their unwavering commitment, exceptional talent, and the significant impact they're poised to make in their fields. We're incredibly proud of their accomplishments and can't wait to see where their professional journey takes them next!
