FAQ
Who is Eligible?
UTEP undergraduate and graduate students who are enrolled in courses in fall or spring semester are eligible to use the Food Pantry. Students do not need to be enrolled in summer classes in order to access the food pantry throughout the summer. Students must bring their Miner Gold Card each time they visit the food pantry.
Current UTEP faculty and staff are also eligible to use the Food Pantry. Faculty and staff must be currently employed in order to access the food pantry. Faculty and Staff must bring their Miner Gold Card each time they visit the food pantry.
How does it work?
All food is free for eligible students/employees. Visitors may choose what they would like to take and quantities handed out depend on current availability. Food drives are conducted every semester and donations are always welcomed to ensure the pantry is as fully stocked as possible.
There are two options for taking food from the pantry. Visitors may take a day's worth of items (five single serving items) and visit up to twice a week OR they may take an estimated week's worth, and visit up to twice a month. Quantities handed out will depend on availability and will fluctuate, pantry staff will hand out items according to availability to keep the pantry sustainable.
What is available at the Food Pantry?
The UTEP Food Pantry provides free food and related items to students facing food insecurity and in need of assistance. The Food Pantry provides supplemental support, this means that we do not provide all of the food and supplies needed in an everyday lifestyle. Because the Food Pantry depends on donations, the types and quantities of food/items will depend on current availability. We only provide non-perishable items. (Canned vegetables, canned fruit, canned meat, cereal, rice, beans, granola bars, etc.) We also carry school supplies and toiletries. If you need additional support, staff of the Pantry are trained to help by referring you to other food programs in the El Paso Del Norte community.
Can I volunteer at the pantry?
The main way to volunteer fo the Food Pantry is through facilitating a Food Drive. Anyone interested in doing so should consult with their advisor or instructor, if applicable. Upon advisor/instructor approval (if necessary), students may then email foodpantry@utep.edu or call us at (915) 747-8053 for more information.
