Sustainability Definition
UTEP defines sustainability as an integrated effort to achieve a balance between ecological health, economic prosperity and social justice without compromising inter-generational equity.
Vision
UTEP’s vision for sustainability is to foster a culture of engagement and participation in the sustainability enterprise among our students, staff, faculty, and administration. Our collective campus efforts aim to strengthen our environmental, social and economic performance related to achieving a sustainable future. We envision creating a campus community that recognizes our interdependence, providing an environment where all are able to become sustainability champions.
Mission
UTEP’s overarching mission relative to sustainability is to strengthen its quest for access and excellence by developing this facet of campus life to further nurture it’s already rich heritage and make UTEP a regional model for sustainability.
Working towards the following goals will help UTEP realize its vision:
- Integration of sustainability into campus life, research, education and facilities management
- Identifying opportunities that may provide UTEP with significant environmental benefits/savings
- Enhancing coordination among academic units, administration, and operational management to promote cross-functional sustainability efforts
- Creating strategic partnerships with local, national, and international partners to expand the network of sustainability champions
- Developing marketing campaigns aimed at increasing the engagement of the entire UTEP community into the sustainability enterprise.
