Benefits of UNIV 1301

In UNIV 1301, you will:

  • participate in a series of professional preparation activities, including exploring possible careers and creating a résumé;
  • engage in critical thinking and exploratory assignments related to academic success skills, including academic advising and navigating library resources;
  • engage with campus resources and participate in UTEP events, including attending social, athletic, and intellectual events that increase your sense of belonging; and
  • document and reflect on your academic journey this semester through a multimodal digital story.

Beyond all of that, you will have fun in UNIV 1301! You will get to know other people and build relationships with your classmates, many of whom are also enrolled in other courses similar to yours. You will have the opportunity to participate in meaningful experiences that get you connected to your peers and the university. We look forward to seeing you in the UNIV classroom and cannot wait to begin this new journey by your side.

Why Enroll?

As an entering student, you will build on your talents, skills, and experiences in UNIV 1301 to successfully transition to the University.

You will receive considerable support throughout the course. Your section will be taught by an instructional team consisting of an instructor, a student peer leader, an academic advisor, and a university research librarian. In addition, class sizes are small (20-30 students), so you will work closely with others to form friendships with classmates and develop a strong network of support with UTEP faculty, staff, and students.

UNIV 1301 supports your leadership development, academic excellence, and campus and community engagement, helping you develop your UTEP Edge.
