I graduated with a degree in Creative Writing and a minor in Rhetoric and Writing. Then when I decided to do my master's I applied to Rhetoric and Writing Studies program. Most of my influence in my writing comes from personal experiences, I tend to lean a lot on my language and culture experiences. I also consider myself most influenced by the films and stories I admire, a lot of the films I like have to do with representation.
I love movies and filmmaking. I take every opportunity to write about it or talk about it—personally I feel that movies have the power to tell stories and share them with an opportunity to create change (or at least the thought of it). Like any writer I also had my roadblocks, when I first started writing a script, I had a difficult time putting words on the script. I did the best that I could to write but I always felt like I was not doing enough.
When I was going through this experience my professor shared some advice that I feel can be applied to any writing, he said that writing is never easy you are often taking parts of yourself when you put words on paper—so even if it’s the worst script you ever written take it and revise it as many times. Revision is a vital step in any writing process and I feel a lot of us forget that what we write isn’t permanent so do not feel pressured to write the perfect sentence.
