Leavell Fellow in Community Engagement
Mrs. Elizabeth Camacho has been a dedicated Faculty and Community member of the El Paso Community. In 2010, she became the Clinical Laboratory Science Program Clinical Coordinator at The University of El Paso (UTEP). Mrs. Camacho has combined classroom and community learning for her CLS students, through community externships and community service, not only for her students but herself. Her work with the community began through community service when her daughters were in school. She has been a contributing author for various publications and is a member of several UTEP committees. The impressive work of Mrs. Camacho does not end there. In 2020 she was named the Leavell Fellow in Community Engagement. In 2021, Mrs. Camacho and her students collaborated in the UTEP COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic. Through the Fellowship and COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic Mrs. Camacho merged scholarly and community research and education to advance health equity and address health disparities in the U.S.-Mexico border.
