Alessandra Narváez Varela (Associate Professor)
Alessandra Narváez Varela, born and raised in Ciudad Juárez, is a professor of creative writing at the University of Texas at El Paso. She received a B.S. in Biological Sciences and a Bilingual MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Texas at El Paso. Her poetry has been featured in Acentos Review, Huizache, the New York Times, the Normal School and Poets.org. Thirty Talks Weird Love, a young adult novel in verse, was published in November 2021 by Cinco Puntos Press, an imprint of Lee and Low Books. The audiobook, narrated by the author, was released by Listening Library from Penguin Random House the same year. Treinta me habla de amor, the Spanish edition available in Latin America, was published by VR Editoras in October 2022.
