Josiah Heyman (Ph.D., CUNY 1988) is Professor of Anthropology, Endowed Professor of Border Trade Issues, and Director of UTEP’s Center for Interamerican and Border Studies. His recent work involves household economies and utility bills, including water. Springing off of this, he has been working in collaboration with Alex Mayer on the tree-heat-water nexus and the land cover of El Paso and Ciudad Juárez. Before that, he was co-leader with Bill Hargrove of a participatory modeling project on water in the Paso del Norte region, two countries and three states. As part of this, he worked on computer representations of water futures (SWIM) with Natalia Villanueva and Luis Garnica. He also has worked on border cultures, family histories in moving to the border region, state agencies, migrants, and numerous other border topics.
