Dr. Thenral Mangadu is the Peter de Wetter Endowed Professor in the Department of Public Health Sciences and Associate Vice President for Health and Interdisciplinary Research in the Office of Research and Sponsored Projects (ORSP) at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). She is the director of the Minority AIDS Research Center and the Institute for Health and Lifespan Research. Dr. Mangadu received her Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Health Sciences from UTEP, MPH from UTHHSC and her Medical Degree from India. Her research expertise is in the areas of health disparities, global and rural health, substance use disorder, mental health and related disparities, maternal and child health, artificial intelligence and machine learning applications in health, and public health program evaluation. She and her community-based, multi-sectoral teams implement multiple regional applied and intervention research and service programs across West Texas.

With over 20 years of experience in community-engaged health disparities research, program implementation, and administration, Dr. Mangadu’s work bridges academia and practice to enhance the healthspan of communities served. Her interdisciplinary and translational science approaches integrate data-driven methods, technology, and community collaboration to improve population health outcomes and advance sustainable solutions for underserved communities.
