MINER AMBASSADORS

Who We Are

The Miner Ambassadors program was established in 2008. They are a group of student leaders dedicated to fostering a culture of philanthropy, engagement and stewardship at UTEP. As student representatives of Institutional Advancement, the Miner Ambassadors serve as liaisons between students, alumni, donors, faculty, staff and the broader community. Through leadership, service, and outreach, they enhance the University’s mission by promoting lifelong connections, encouraging engagement and educating students on the constant giving happening at UTEP. The program provides a unique opportunity for students to develop professional skills, network with influential stakeholders and make a lasting impact on UTEP’s future.

What We Do

Ambassadors work closely with Institutional Advancement, the President’s Office and a variety of other campus departments. As representatives of UTEP, Ambassadors are expected to show the utmost levels of professionalism and commitment in order to further advance the University’s excellence and caliber.

Why You Should Join

By becoming a Miner Ambassador, you will gain valuable professional experience, along with the opportunity to network with various UTEP alumni, staff and faculty. Furthermore, you will have the opportunity to build upon and demonstrate your leadership skills by stepping out of your comfort zone, meeting new people and making new friends. The experiences and capabilities acquired in this program will continue to serve you, even after your graduation.

Miner Ambassador Requirements

To be eligible for consideration, students must meet the following criteria:

Have and maintain a 3.00 grade-point average.
Be enrolled full-time at UTEP and maintain a full-time status throughout your time as a Miner Ambassador.
Show involvement, service, and leadership on campus and/or in the community.
Never have been subject to disciplinary action for academic or non-academic reasons (A list of applicants will be given to the Office of the Dean of Students for verification).

		Sandra Chacon Metallurgical and Materials Engineering Class of 2027	Sandra Chacon is a senior majoring in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering in the College of Engineering and a returning Miner Ambassador. She serves as Vice President of Material Advantage/American Foundry Society and is also involved in the University Honors Program and Baptist Student Ministry.

		Jaime Dávila Biomedical Sciences Class of 2027	Jaime Dávila is a senior majoring in Biomedical Sciences in the College of Science and a returning Miner Ambassador. Jaime is the founder and president of GAMA (Gilman Association for Miners Abroad), president of MAPS (Minority Association for Miners Abroad), and vice president of Miners Against Hunger. Jaime is also a Gilman Scholarship recipient, Hawkins Scholarship finalist, and member of the Pre-Dental Society.

		Dominique Fierro Biological Sciences Class of 2027	Dominique Fierro is a senior majoring in Biological Sciences in the College of Science and a returning Miner Ambassador. Dominique is a Terry Scholar and is involved with Miners Against Hunger and the Pre-Dental Society.

		Edgar Lerma-Loya Mechanical Engineering Class of 2029	Edgar Lerma-Loya is a sophomore majoring in Mechanical Engineering in the College of Engineering and a returning Miner Ambassador. Edgar is a Terry Scholar and serves as Secretary for the Terry Scholars Student Organization, Director of Professional Development for ASME, and Senator at Large for the Student Government Association. He is also involved with the Society of Physics Students.

		Ana Giselle Marquez Perez Education Class of 2027	Ana Giselle Marquez Perez is a senior majoring in Education in the College of Education and a returning Miner Ambassador. Ana Giselle is an Archer Fellow, serves as a Collegiate Senator for the College of Education and an Executive Orientation Leader, and is also an Undergraduate Research Assistant.

		Kate Muñoz Ecology and Evoutionary Biology Class of 2028	Kate Muñoz is a junior majoring in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology in the College of Science and a returning Miner Ambassador. Kate is active in Student Government Association, where she serves as Chair for the Student Appointment and Review Committee and as Digital Media Chair, and is also a member of the SEEDs organization.

		Maribel Murillo Business Management Class of 2029	Maribel Murillo is a sophomore majoring in Business Management in the Hunt College of Business and a returning Miner Ambassador. She is an Excellence Scholar and participates in the Marching Miners, Concert Band, and Basketball Pep Band. Maribel also serves as an officer in Women in Business Administration and the Women’s Volunteer Organization and is involved with the Accounting Society and Human Capital Management Academy.

		Kareena Ortiz Anthropology Class of 2028	Kareena Ortiz is a junior majoring in Anthropology in the College of Liberal Arts and a returning Miner Ambassador. Kareena is involved in the Anthropology Association, the Liberal Arts Honors Program, and the Outreach Committee for the Department of Sociology and Anthropology.

		Raul Rojero Civil Engineering Class of 2028	Raul Rojero is a junior majoring in Civil Engineering in the College of Engineering and a returning Miner Ambassador. Raul is a UTEP Scholar and an Undergraduate Research Assistant in the Civil Engineering Department, serves as Vice President of Vision Mexico, and is a Fellows alumnus through the Office of Student Fellowships and Awards.

		Daniela Ventura Organizational and Corporate Communication Class of 2027	Daniela Ventura is a senior majoring in Organizational and Corporate Communication in the College of Liberal Arts and a returning Miner Ambassador. Daniela is involved in the Liberal Arts Honors Program, Baptist Student Ministry, International Student Fellowship, and the National Society of Leadership and Success, and also serves as an Undergraduate Research Assistant.

		Gloria Effah Sarpong Information Systems and Business Analytics Class of 2027	Gloria Effah Sarpong is majoring in Information Systems and Business Analytics in the Hunt College of Business and is a new Miner Ambassador. She is involved with BIAS African Student Union. Gloria is the founder of The Hadar Group, which includes Purpose by Hadar, a fashion brand that supports orphans and widows in Ghana through a portion of its profits. Her experiences in leadership, entrepreneurship, and motherhood have strengthened her commitment to service and philanthropy.

		Melina Holguin Biomedical Sciences Class of 2029	Melina Holguin is a sophomore majoring in Biomedical Sciences in the College of Science and is a new Miner Ambassador. Melina is a Terry Scholar and an Undergraduate Researcher in the Hirschi Lab within the Department of Biological Sciences.

		Aracely Ramirez Biomedical Sciences Class of 2027	Aracely Ramirez is a senior majoring in Biomedical Sciences in the College of Science and is a new Miner Ambassador. Aracely is a member of the Collegiate Double T Health Professions Honor Society.

		Stephanie Arroyo Biomedical Sciences Class of 2029	Stephanie Arroyo is a sophomore majoring in Biomedical Sciences in the College of Science and is a new Miner Ambassador. Stephanie is a Texas Leaders Scholar, CHEM 1305 Peer Leader, and Undergraduate Research Assistant. She is also involved in the University Honors Program, Student Support Services Program, and HOSA.

		Miranda Garcia Kinesiology Class of 2028	Miranda Garcia is a junior majoring in Kinesiology in the College of Health Sciences and is a new Miner Ambassador. Miranda is a Terry Scholar and an Undergraduate Research Assistant.

		Tania González Finance Class of 2029	Tania González is a sophomore majoring in Finance in the Hunt College of Business and is a new Miner Ambassador. She works as an Undergraduate Assistant in the President’s Office and serves as a Legislative Assistant in Student Government Association. Tania is also secretary of the Association of Latino Professionals for America and is an active member of several business student organizations.

The Ambassadors are trained to serve as event hosts and strive to offer a polished student perspective when connecting with your guests.
