Safety and convenience of mobility were behind the construction of the Bhutanese-inspired pedestrian overpass that spans Sun Bowl Drive and connects the Health Sciences and Nursing Building to a nearby parking lot. The 156-foot-long, 92-ton “gateway to opportunity” hovers 35 feet above the busy road below. Opened in 2011, the covered bridge was one of several planned transportation enhancements that involved the Texas Department of Transportation.
