Host a UTEP Student Intern | 2026–2027
UTEP Engage invites nonprofit organizations and community partners to apply as Community Work-Study host sites for the 2026–2027 academic year.
Host organizations provide meaningful, community-based internship experiences that help students strengthen professional skills while contributing to projects that support the region.
We encourage projects that incorporate community engagement, research, creative activities, outreach, education, or workforce development opportunities connected to student learning and career readiness.
UTEP departments may also be considered if opportunities demonstrate strong community engagement and external impact.
What Host Organizations Receive
- Support from a motivated UTEP student intern
- Assistance with community-based projects, outreach, research, programming, or communications
- Opportunities to mentor and support student professional development
- Stronger collaboration with UTEP and community engagement initiatives
Host Organization Responsibilities
Organizations selected as host sites are expected to:
- Provide meaningful project-based work and a supportive learning environment
- Designate a supervisor/mentor for the student intern
- Provide clear goals, responsibilities, and learning opportunities
- Participate in orientation, evaluations, and periodic communication with UTEP Engage
- Support a safe, inclusive, and professional environment
- Communicate with UTEP Engage regarding student progress or concerns
Hybrid and remote opportunities may be considered depending on the nature of the placement.
Application Timeline
- Priority deadline for returning partners: July 10, 2026
- Final application deadline: July 17, 2026
- Notifications to selected sites: Late July 2026
- Internship period: September 1, 2026 – May 30, 2027

Organizations applying to host a student intern will complete an online application through The CUE/GivePulse.

The application will request:
- Organization contact information Description of the population or community served
- Supervisor/mentor information
- Internship position description and proposed student responsibilities
- Skills relevant to the position
- Anticipated impact of the student’s work on the organization
- Skills and experiences students are expected to gain
- Proposed work schedule and availability
- Number of student positions requested
- Additional information relevant to the application review
*We recommend preparing responses in a separate document before submitting the application.
Eligible host sites may include:
- Nonprofit organizations (501(c)(3))
- Community-based organizations
- Public or community-serving agencies
- Organizations in the process of incorporation or obtaining nonprofit status may also be considered
*Political campaigns or religious groups are not eligible to participate in the program.
Host organizations are not required to provide student wages, as students are compensated through their Federal Work-Study allocation.
However, organizations are expected to provide:
- Necessary materials and supplies related to the internship
- Appropriate workspace or remote work support
- Reimbursement for approved project-related travel expenses (if applicable)
- Resources necessary for students to successfully complete assigned projects
Community Partner Host Responsibilities and Guidelines
Organizations interested in applying must:
- Provide a workspace, meaningful work, and a safe environment for the student
- Appoint a site supervisor/mentor for the student and complete the associated paperwork as the supervisor
- Propose a project or set of tasks that provides a student with learning and professional skill-building opportunities
- Do not replace the work of a part-time or full-time employee
- Agree to attend a community organization orientation in late August (date to be determined)
- Complete a mid-semester and final evaluation of student work-study (material will be provided)
- Help strengthen and contribute to the organization's mission and work
- Can be completed in the project duration time period, at 15 hours per week
- Participate in a 3-hour orientation at the beginning of the project period
- Participate in an end-of-year celebration where students and organizations showcase their collaborative work
