Application Instructions
Dear Applicant:
Thank you for your continued interest in The University of Texas at El Paso’s Clinical Laboratory Science (CLS) Upper Division/Professional Baccalaureate Degree Program beginning Summer Session. This application packet will provide you with instructions and forms to initiate the admission process.
Students are eligible to apply for admission into the Upper Division CLS Program during the Spring Semester prior to the Summer Semester that classes will begin. For consideration, applicants must either (a) be enrolled in the prerequisite/pre-professional courses so that at least 65 semester hours will be completed by the end of the Spring Semester, or (b) have completed all prerequisite/pre-professional courses at the time of application, or (c) has a previous degree in Biology and enrolled in CLSC 3357. Students who are completing prerequisite/pre-professional courses at UTEP must be enrolled as Clinical Laboratory Science - Lower Division majors (CLLD).
The following documentation must be received by the UTEP CLS Program by or before the January 31 st of the year the student wishes to enter the program. Deadline: (ITEMS #1, #2, and # 4 are in the Application Packet, Item # 3 must be initiated by the student and included in the application packet.
- Application for Admission into the Upper Division/Professional Phase of the UTEP CLS Program: This application must be complete. Please type or print all of the information requested .
- Evaluation/Recommendation of Applicant: Two of these confidential forms must be sent by the Evaluators to the UTEP CLS Program. One form is required to be filled out by a previous or current instructor and the other by a previous employer, another instructor, or by a professional contact (i.e., employer, supervisor).
- Degree Plan Evaluation: The CLS department must have a recent (i.e., within the last semester) copy of a UTEP CLS Degree Plan Evaluation. This evaluation must be completed by an advisor in the CHS Student Support Center (915-747-7234), located in Room 200 of the Health Sciences/School of Nursing building
- Essential Functions page must be signed and dated.
**If all of your prerequisite courses have been completed at other colleges/universities other than UTEP, you must send complete official transcripts of these courses along with appropriate catalog descriptions of major courses to the Admissions Office. You must then ask for a Degree Plan Evaluation from the CHS Student Support Center located in room 200 of the Health Sciences/School of Nursing Building (915-747-7234). It is the responsibility of the applicant to insure that this evaluation is correct and a part of the applicant packet/folder prior to January 31st.
THE CLS ADMISSIONS COMMITTEE MUST BE ABLE TO DOCUMENT VIA THE UTEP COMPUTERIZED STUDENT INFORMATION SYSTEM OR BY OFFICAL TRANSCRIPTS THAT ALL PREREQUISITE COURSES HAVE BEEN OR WILL BE SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED BY THE END OF THE SUMMER SEMESTER BEFORE THE FALL SEMESTER OF THE PROFESSIONAL PHASE COURSES BEGIN.
Applicants will be officially notified of the final admission decision via e-mail by April. Students accepted into the CLS Program must attend a MANDATORY orientation on campus on the last Thursday in May. If students cannot attend the orientation then the student’s admission will be deferred to the next year.
