Research Driven Courses (RDC)
These exciting research opportunities are specific sections that can be taken in lieu of the corresponding traditional laboratory or lecture courses in diverse STEM fields, while still meeting degree requirements. As part of these courses, students generally conduct research in teams and acquire field-specific skills, learn relevant techniques and become valuable members of the UTEP research community.
Quick Facts
- Open to all UTEP students
- For freshman laboratory courses
- SCI 1301 RFC required
- 2-semester sequence of research-based coursework
- 6 tracks available in Chemistry/Biochemistry, Biology, and Geology
- Other freshman options available
- 2 tracks in Psychology and Sociology
- SCI 1301 RFC strongly encouraged
- Upper division courses available in Biochemistry, Engineering, Psychology and Social Work
RDC Options
Different research topics are covered in different sections of the same course. For example, one section of BIOL 1107 may be dedicated to Drug Development and Bioassays, while another section of BIOL 1107 may be dedicated to Brain Mapping and Connectomics. Each of these sections would have its own individual CRN. Make sure to determine the CRN number that corresponds to the research you are interested in and enroll in that specific section. CRNs will vary by semester and year.
