SWI-Prolog Installation Guide
Windows Installation
- Visit the SWI-Prolog download page
- Download the Windows installer (64-bit or 32-bit depending on your system)
- Run the downloaded
.exefile - Follow the installation wizard:
- Accept the license agreement
- Choose installation directory (default is recommended)
- Select components (install all recommended components)
- Important: Make sure "Add SWI-Prolog to PATH" is checked
- Click "Install" and wait for completion
- Click "Finish" to complete installation
macOS Installation
- Visit the SWI-Prolog download page
- Download the macOS installer (.dmg file)
- Open the downloaded .dmg file
- Drag the SWI-Prolog icon to your Applications folder
- Open Terminal and verify installation by typing:
swipl --version
Linux Installation
Ubuntu/Debian:
sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install swi-prolog
Fedora:
sudo dnf install pl
Verifying Installation
- Open Command Prompt (Windows) or Terminal (macOS/Linux)
- Type
swipland press Enter - You should see the SWI-Prolog prompt:
?- - Type
halt.to exit
Getting Started
To run a Prolog program:
- Create a file with
.plextension (e.g.,program.pl) - Open SWI-Prolog
- Load your file:
[program]. - Query your predicates

Visual Studio Code Installation Guide
Windows Installation
- Visit the VS Code download page
- Click the "Download for Windows" button
- Run the downloaded installer (
VSCodeSetup.exe) - Accept the license agreement
- Choose installation location
- Important: Check these options:
- ✓ Add "Open with Code" action to Windows Explorer file context menu
- ✓ Add "Open with Code" action to Windows Explorer directory context menu
- ✓ Add to PATH (this allows you to run
codefrom command line)
- Click "Install" and wait for completion
- Launch VS Code when installation completes
macOS Installation
- Visit the VS Code download page
- Download the macOS version (Universal or specific to Intel/Apple Silicon)
- Open the downloaded .zip file
- Drag Visual Studio Code.app to the Applications folder
- Launch VS Code from Applications
- Optional: Add to PATH by opening Command Palette (Cmd+Shift+P) and searching for "Shell Command: Install 'code' command in PATH"
Linux Installation
Ubuntu/Debian (.deb):
sudo apt update sudo apt install ./<file>.deb
Or install via Snap:
sudo snap install code --classic
Fedora/RHEL (.rpm):
sudo rpm -i <file>.rpm

Verifying Installation
- Open Command Prompt or Terminal
- Type
code --version - You should see the VS Code version number
