Background Check Procedures
As a student teacher, you will not be allowed in the classroom on the first day of student teaching until background checks are cleared. It is mandatory that you start your student teaching on the first day assigned by UTEP. The school district human resources department will issue a letter of background clearance that you will deliver to your assigned school principal. You may not start your student teaching without the district’s clearance letter.
Specific district requirements are as follows:
Canutillo ISD
- Go to www.canutillo-isd.org
- Hover over Departments.
- Scroll down and click on Human Resources.
- Scroll down the menu on the left-hand side and click on Miscellaneous Forms.
- Click on University Application (is the last form on the second page)
- Print the entire packet, fill out, and follow submission instructions.
Clint ISD
- Visit Clint Independent School District’s main website at www.clintweb.net
- Click on “Employment”
- Click on “Job Openings”
- Click on “Volunteers” on the menu on the left side of the page
- Click on “Apply”
- Follow prompts to fill out the application.
A State Identification Card/State Driver License needs to be attached to the application for the application to be completed. - An email will be sent to verify that the volunteer has been approved. (This can take up to seven (7) business days.)

El Paso ISD
- Go to www.episd.org/vips
- Click on Internship Opportunities
- Click on online Volunteer Application
- DO NOT select a campus within the application.
This is a generic clearance.
- DO NOT select a campus within the application.
Note: Allow three working days before contacting the campus to verify that the clearance has been granted and noted on its’ database.
Socorro ISD
- Go to www.sisd.net
- Click on Jobs
- Click on Forms
- Scroll down and click on Criminal Records Form
- Print and fill out the (1) Texas Department of Public Safety Criminal History & Investigative Consumer Report Consent Form, and (2) DPS Computerized Criminal History (CCH) Verification
- Return the form with a copy of your state ID to the school district’s Human Resources Department at 12440 Rojas Dr., El Paso, TX 79928
Note: Allow the school district 3 working days to complete your background check. Also if a student has a criminal hit, it can take up to a week to get them through the district’s legal review process. The student must pick up the letter in person at the receptionist desk at the District Service center 12440 Rojas. The Police Waiver is not required for Student Teachers.
Ysleta ISD

- Click on Community
- Click on Interns/Observation
- Click on Intern Consent Form
on line item # 2 - Fill out the application and submit
