Community Partners

Host a Community Work-Study Student

Partner with UTEP Engage to host a Community Work-Study student and provide meaningful, hands-on experiences that support student success while advancing your organization's mission.

As a host organization, you'll benefit from:

  • Support from a motivated UTEP student intern
  • Assistance with community projects, research, outreach and programming
  • Opportunities to mentor future professionals
  • Stronger partnerships with UTEP and the community

Eligibility

Eligible host organizations include:

  • Nonprofit organizations (501(c)(3))
  • Community-based organizations
  • Public and community-serving agencies
  • Organizations working toward nonprofit status (considered on a case-by-case basis)

Political campaigns and religious organizations are not eligible.

Host Responsibilities

Host organizations are expected to:

  • Provide meaningful, project-based work that supports student learning
  • Designate a site supervisor or mentor
  • Establish clear responsibilities and learning objectives
  • Provide a safe, inclusive and professional work environment
  • Participate in required orientations, evaluations and program communications
  • Notify UTEP Engage of any student concerns or issues

Hybrid and remote internships may be considered based on the nature of the position.

The application includes:

  • Organization and supervisor information
  • Internship description and student responsibilities
  • Desired skills and qualifications
  • Proposed work schedule
  • Number of student positions requested
  • Expected learning outcomes and community impact

We recommend preparing your responses in a separate document before beginning the application.

Cost

There is no cost to host a Community Work-Study student. Student wages are funded through the Federal Work-Study Program.

Host organizations are responsible for providing:

  • A workspace or remote work support
  • Materials and resources needed for the internship
  • Approved project-related travel expenses, if applicable

Important Dates

  • Site Notifications: Late July 2026
  • Internship Period: September 1, 2026 – May 30, 2027
