UTEP Microcredential Information Session
All UTEP faculty and staff are invited to the Microcredential Information Session held on October 2, 2025 from 2-4 p.m. in the Smiley Room, Union East.
New Microcredentials for Fall 2025
UTEP faculty are offering three new microcredentials that they have embedded in coursework. These include Pipetting, supported by Dr. Philip Lavretsky, offered in Biology 1108 labs and Court Interpreter, supported by Ms. Valeria Delmar in Translation 4380.The Professional Preparedness Pathway is offered across all sections of Business 1301 and is supported by Dr. Rolando Nuñez.
Faculty (including graduate students) and staff are also eligible to participate in and receive badges for completing the Teaching Online Academy, the HyFlex Academy, and the Artificial Intelligence Design Academy offered by the Center for Instructional Design.
Faculty across the College of Liberal Arts, such as Dr. Kenneth Yang in Communication and Dr. Anthony Blum in Psychology are incorporating Coursera certificates into their courses.
Inaugural Microcredential Summer Institute

The inaugural UTEP Microcredential Institute took place in summer 2025. Twelve participants represented the colleges of Education, Engineering, Health Sciences, Liberal Arts, Science, and the Library. Participants met six times to engage with leaders from the University of Texas System, WorkCred, Coursera, Anthology, and Territorium. They also heard from UTEP microcredential trailblazers and received support from the Center for Instructional Design, InSPIRE, and the Curriculum Effectiveness and Improvement team. Participants developed a poster featuring their microcredential and plan to implement their microcredentials in the next year. This inaugural Institute was sponsored by the Strada Beyond Completion Challenge Grant and led by Toni Blum, Beth Brunk, and Louie Rodriguez.
