About the Conference

What is the HIIT Conference?
HIIT stands for High Impact and Innovative Teaching—a conference dedicated to celebrating the ways faculty, staff, and students are reshaping the future of education. This year, HIIT brings the UTEP community together to showcase bold ideas, creative practices, and meaningful changes that make a lasting difference in teaching and learning.

Who can attend the conference?
The conference is open to all who have an interest in becoming an educator in higher education.

Do I need to register in advance to attend sessions?
We would greatly prefer pre-registration before attendance as we need to account for food purchases, but you are welcome to sign up at the door.

Is there a cost to attend?
There is no cost to attend.

Can I attend even if I’m not affiliated with UTEP?
Absolutely! We invite the local and greater communities of educators to join us!

Can I attend just one day or a single session?
You can attend as little or as much as you would like.

Location & Logistics

Where is the conference being held?
Union Building East, Tomas Rivera Conference Center 308, UTEP

Will all sessions be in the same building?
Yes they will.

Is there a map or app to help me find sessions?
All sessions will be found on the same floor of the union and there will be signs to guide you.

Is parking available? Do I need a permit?
UTEP requires a parking permit.

Will signs or volunteers be available to help with directions?
Both signs and volunteers will be present.

Schedule & Sessions

What time does the conference start and end each day?
The conference begins at 8:30 am and ends between 3 and 4 (except for the HIIT Awards Gala which takes place from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm).

Can I attend multiple types of sessions (e.g., workshops, lightning talks)?
You can attend any sessions you would like.

How do I know which sessions are open for drop-ins?
All sessions are open for drop-ins, but a great number of them are workshops where faculty are engaged in activities and you may need to talk to the presenters about getting caught up.

Do I need to sign up for workshops or roundtables in advance?
It is not necessary, but we would greatly prefer if you sign up using the schedule app so that we can track attendance.

How long are the sessions?
All sessions are 90 minutes. 3 Lightning talks share one session.

Food & Accommodations

Will meals or snacks be provided?
Breakfast and lunch will be provided.

Are there vegetarian, vegan, or gluten-free options?
These options are available to those who register before the event and inform us of their needs.

How do I notify organizers about a food allergy or dietary restriction?
Through the registration link.

Is there a quiet room or space to take a break?
The main gathering room, the TRCC, will be available during sessions for quiet space.

Will there be coffee?
Yes, there will be coffee.

Is the event accessible for people with disabilities?
It is! We just ask that you register for the conference and answer the question about accessibility needs.

Who do I contact if I need help during the conference?
Get in touch with someone at the registration table and they will help you find your way.
